FAV WORDS OF WISDOM:
Don't say anything on the radio
that you wouldn't say to your Mom at dinner.
(Good thing my Mother is pretty understanding!)
Would you believe I have been in radio for over 18 years now?
I have worked a variety day parts in multiple music and talk
formats all over including Madison WI., Rockford IL.,Sacramento CA.,
and for the past 10 years here at WBNQ. What a blessing!
Born and raised on a small farm in Rochelle Illinois,
I trained in music, theater, and speech team during my
childhood and through college at Northern Illinois University.
My childhood was filled with so many amazing moments,
like when I was crowned National Little Miss Peanut
and was invited to meet President Jimmy Carter!
(He is a big peanut fan of course)
Or when I brought home the I.H.S.A. State Championship Medal for public speaking in high school.
(Nope, I'm not on the Rochelle population sign, you have to run and jump for that apparently)
I also worked in the music theater world for a bit. My biggest pro role-
Petra in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, unpaid-Nellie in SOUTH PACIFIC.
Being loud professionally is just a natural fit for me.
I began my radio career in Springfield while participating in the Illinois
Governmental Internship Program. The opportunity to "try out" a selected
employment field is given to advanced high-school students during
their senior year. I took the opportunity to explore the media world and
haven't left the industry since. I can't imagine doing anything else.
I went to Pontiac for a bridal shower
and came home with an incredible recipie.
Thanks for writing it down Cheryl R.
