Mason in the Afternoon Minimize

Hi! I'm Mason. I'm on the radio from 3pm till 7pm on WBNQ.

Take a look around my blog. I like to post pointless time-wasting videos and other stuff that might help get you through the work day while being as unproductive as possible! If you ever find something online and want to share it with the world, send it to me, and it could be part of the Best of the Net this week!

Oh, & Thank you for listening!

Back in the day… Tom and Barb had a child. He was a smart kid, attending gifted classes by elementary school. That child was not me, that was my brother, & I’m much cooler than Marty, anyways… HI! Wow.. you want to read about me. I’m flattered. My name is Mason, and I talk for a living, but it’s much more complicated than that, actually. I work a full day, I don’t just sit in a padded room and talk to myself for 4 hours a day, then party all night. I’m also the Assistant Program Director, and the Music Director for WBNQ! That’s the office side of things. I put in a full day, in the office early, on the air in the afternoon from 3-7, Monday – Friday.

I’m from a place in Michigan that is the kind of place your parents told you not to drive thru at night. The city, when I was growing up, wasn’t as bad as it is today. I remember playing on the rock in the front yard, well after dark. Now… well.. Let’s just say, I wouldn’t let my kids play on that rock after dark. Anyhow… My parents separated (boo!) and Mom and my brother and I moved from the city, to Saginaw Township, where later, my parents got back together!(yay!) Back when I was 12, goofin’ off on the school bus, my friend Ryan McHenry said “You should be a comedian!” I spent the following years being a fool to make people laugh, while trying to graduate from grade school. I thought I wanted to do television, so I looked behind-the-scenes in the studios, taking some TV/Film production classes in High School. That’s where I met a kid named Tim, who said “wanna be an intern at the radio station with me?”

I figured, “That would look great on a resume!” and 11 and a half years later, here I am. Still goin’. I started as an intern, calling you during dinner, to ask your opinion on music. Workin’ for free, but I loved it, I even walked in my High School graduation ceremony, worked the overnight shift, and did the “on the street” morning show bit the next day, while still in my cap & gown. I would do whatever they wanted to get noticed, just to get my foot in the door. Then, I started getting paid! A wopping $800 a month, working 11pm till 11am M-F!(plus a Saturday Morning shift) I was 17, didn’t know any better, I just wanted it. Worked overnights, weekends, and doing Morning Show grunt work, ‘till I was about 20. Then, I worked a few different shifts, at a few different stations in a few different areas. Lived in South Bend, IN for a while, then back home to have my own Night Show for a few years. Took 6 months off, (not by choice), then returned with my own Morning Show. Quickly realizing that I do not like coffee, I got the call, packed, and now I call Central Illinois home.

You can find me at Rhino’s, in Downtown Bloomington, on Friday Nights, and on a golf course on Saturday or Sunday.
